Regular readers and those who follow me on twitter may have already seen that I’m currently using the Smoothskin Bare home ILP device to remove unwanted hair. As you may know from part one, I’ve been treating the lower part of my neck where the skin is quite delicate, and wearing collared shirts causes rubbing, irritation, red bumps, and ingrowing hairs on skin that’s already damaged from daily shaving.
I’ve used this once a week for 8 weeks which may sound like a lengthy period, but when you compare it to a lifetime of shaving, it’s a tiny amount of time. Using the device in glide mode (more about that in part one!), it’s taken me only minutes to treat the small area – literally about 3 minutes from getting the device out, to putting it away. If anyone is interested in a video to show just how quick it is, I’ll make one for part three!
As horrible as it is to flaunt the flaws in my skin, I really wanted to get up close and personal to show you both the issue I’ve faced before using this, and the results of just a few weeks usage. On the left is my lower neck before any treatments. The hairs are dark and coarse, and there’s quite bit of irritation, and even hairs that are starting to in grow. On the right I’ve had to get even closer to show the super-fine hairs that weren’t in the “growth phase” during the treatment and are only starting to now grow, but will be treated with the next lot of ILP sessions. The hairs at the top of the image (just sitting on the cusp of the treated area) are a lot finer, and some of them have lost their pigment, so are barley viable unless you’re THIS close to the skin.

As you can see, these are huge results in just 2 months! I really didn’t expect to see this much difference – it wasn’t until I looked at these two image side by side that I even noticed just how drastically the hair growth has been reduced. When using it week-to-week, I suppose it’s harder to see the more gradual result. So if you’re about to use this at home, I’d recommend taking a “before” picture just to remind yourself of your starting point, as it’s honestly easy to forget.
